Not sure why AMD have dropped H.264 corruption from its known problems....are they not telling us something.

From your comments nikospot I seem to be in the same situation as you are. I too use DVB (DVBviewer in my case). As you said there are many codecs out there some work and some don't. Is this then a codec issue or a hardware issue...maybe it is a driver issue. All I know is that HEVC decoding using LAV filter works fine for me. If the HEVC decoding works (which is probably more complex than H.264) are we really sure this is an AMD problem. Question: before Crimson drivers did anyone have H.264 hw acceleration working using LAV filter using any other AMD GPU? Don't get me wrong I would love to see LAV working with H.264 as well and the fact that AMD do not pass any real clues is downright inconsiderate to all their customers.
Following this blog I have an open mind as to what may be the issue. It would be ideal if we could get comments from the LAV filter creators (maybe they can shed some light as to what can be done to fix this). MADVR is another codec with its own set of problem. Microsoft codecs ?

I have an 4K LG Monitor which supports HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour.  I use the monitor with Windows 10 (Using RX480 8G as a GPU). I also have a ROKU4. I connect both devices using HDMI via a SONY DN860 AV amp. My problem is this. When I watch UHD content via the ROKU 4 it will only work if  HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour is turned on which is fine. What that does on the windows 10 display is limit the pixel format to YCbCr 4:2:0 which leaves me with a not so good picture. When I turn off  HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour windows lets me use YCbCr 4:4:4 and RGB 4:4:4 (Full RGB). I suspect this is an issue for AMD but any feedback appreciated. By the way when I switch from HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour OFF to ON Windows10 detects the change and limits my display to only this pixel format YCbCr 4:2:0
Not too sure how to make the ROKU4 work without HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour as that also would give a working solution.

H.264 interlaced content cannot be handled by AMD drivers correctly when turning on DXVA.

Re: RX480 DXVA H.264 not working.
 Decahertz
A reponse from DVBviewer forum:
====================================
I think AMD and Nvidia have different issues.
AMD => interlaced H.264 with new RX 4x0 cards and / or new drivers
Nvidia (and Others) => stream errors with "bad" error handling
====================================
seems to indicate the problem is interlaced content.
From my tests
Astra Demo 2160p works fine
BBC HD 1080i does not work.
I don't have 2160i content so cannot verify.
Let me find some 1080pcontent and test. OK an iphone 1080p recording plays fine.
So DVB tech person is correct in his analyses.
My iphone 5s records in 1080p
iphone recoding 2180p works fine too.

So H.264 interlaced content cannot be handled by AMD drivers correctly when turning on DXVA.

DXVA issue being looked at by AMD

DXVA issue being looked at by AMD

Message from AMD

Hey, just letting you know AMD is in the process of looking at your reported issue. We are in the process of trying to reproduce the issue locally. It isn't as black and white an issue as it seems. We extensively test H264/H265 decoding during validation so please be assured we didn't ignore a problem from the get go. Anyway! Hopefully I can reproduce this issue, if not I'll try to follow up with you here.

As AMD are looking into just be patient I suggest.
By the way H264 decoding is really not a big deal. Any midrange CPU can cope with that , in fact my Phenom 1100T CPU which is about 7 years old copes with decoding that using about 5% of CPU....H265 works fine....so it is not a big deal.

By the way the answer to the DVBviewer query is yes the recorded video playback also corrupts the image when DXVA is turned on for h264.

RX480 using HWinfo64 to check stats at idle and playing doom

RX480 using HWinfo64 to check stats at idle and playing doom.
This video was done for AMD staff.

RX480 driver 16.8.3 fixes coloured screen hang

RX480 driver 16.8.3 fixes coloured screen hang.

This is one of the videos which showed the after effects of the coloured screen issue.

Have been using this driver for a few days now and no coloured screen hangs.

However the 100% GPU load still happens occasionally. This problem does not really impact any of my PC apps so not a big deal.

I would recommend using the uninstallation of the previous driver before you insatll the new driver. AMD provide a tool for this function.

The AMD Clean Uninstall Utility

AMD RX480 DXVA not working H.264

I also reported this issue to AMD. There are many blogs reporting his issue. As yet AMD have not even admitted this issue exist.

Hi, this issue has been an outstanding issue for the AMD RX480 users.
The issue can be reproduced.
I enclose a video to show the problem.

I have uploaded my dxdiag config for AMD staff.
No response as yet from AMD. This issue is still there with driver 16.8.3 released at the end of August 2016.

Follow thread here and report the issue to AMD if you have the same problem.

As seen from the picture of  LAV filter, it is setup to use DXVA hw acceleration for HD and UHD. UHD works but HD does not.

RX480 crashing to a coloured screen

I Started experiencing a coloured screen crash which would leave a PC in an unusable state. Only option was to press the reset button, shutdown or sleep (if you have an option for that function). This is not a good scenario as folk started loosing work etc... I reported issue to AMD.

I provided many videos to assist AMD tech support to get an idea what was happening.
This is a video of the RX480 after the PC suffered a white screen, managed to suspend PC and then restarted which recovered the screen. The GPU is at 100% load and temp is going up steadily. You can see the CPU is not doing anything and most of the apps have been shut down. After this restarted the PC and it went to GPU load of 1% ...so something triggered this 100% load.
This needs to be looked at by AMD tech ASAP !!! BTW I have 16.7.3 WHL driver.

My HTPC sound system - SONY STR-DN860

SONY STR-DN860

I connect this amp to my PC using an optical cable (SPDIF). I have now purchased a 4K monitor (LG 27MU67) which has all the connectivity to suit my requirements. This monitor supports HDMI2 and HDCP2.2

As you can image the unit is full of connectivity options. My main requirement was support for 4K video, including HDMI2 and HDCP2.2 which this unit provides. This unit also has Bluetooth, WiFi (5G) and LAN so it can be accessed from other rooms via mobiles and tablets etc.

So how do I use my RX480.

I connect to a 4K Monitor LG 27MU67 using a Display Port connection

my screen resolution is 3840 by 2160 @ 60 fps

4K UHD IPS LED Monitor.

I wanted a Monitor for my PC and Video Streamer.
My requirements to be able to play 4K streaming.
HDMI 2.0
This is a must if you intend to play any 4K material at 60 frames per second (fps).
HDCP 2.2
What is HDCP 2.2 ?
HDCP 2.2 is High Definition copyright protection. This creates a secure connection at both ends of the cable. HDCP makes sure that the data with the cable ( HDMI or Display Port) is secure.
Below is a screen shot Windows10 streaming 3 football games from BT sports.

Fine tuning the RX480

RX480 compatability mode

After reading many blogs it seems that AMD needed to do a minor adjustment with the way the power was distributed to the GPU. Installed Crimson 16.7.1 which provided a new feature "compatability mode"

Polaris 10 GPU architecture

I had been waiting for my next GPU for a while. Deciding was brutal. Did I want to spend a fortune (about £600) and get the NVIDIA GTX 1080 ? At the end of the day I was after a GPU which could be part of my HTPC able to decode HEVC.

I use DVBviwer as part of my HTPC setup which is a brilliant program. RX480  works very well with DVBviewer. It can decode HEVC on the fly so works for Astra UHD broadcasts 4K @ 50 fps.

I have created a video showing the RX480 playing a 4K UHD transmission if you care to take a look. If anyone wants to ask anything about the setup feel free to do so.
